Some of you have asked how I make these items, so I thought I would share the process as I go while making a blanket.

This will give you an idea of the time and detail that goes in to making each item.

You can check back here often to see the progress I have made and see pictures of each throughout the creation process.

First, I start by cutting the strings of yarn to hold the weaves in place. This particular blanket required me to cut 140, 14ft long strings that I fold in half, which will give  me a 6ft long blanket and 6 inches on each end to tie the ends, as well as add fringe. Normally, you will not have a kitten pulling on the strings, causing knots and a mess, but I thought I'd share since she's so darn cute. :)

Next, I put the strings on my loom.

I do about 3-4 inches at a time before moving on to the next section. You can see the strings running vertically while the weaving yarn is running horizontally (or weft).

Once I have enough done, I pull the strings through to allow another panel to be created.  I repeat this process until the blanket is complete.

Wednesday 10/17: I got home late from work last night so I didn't get as much done as I expected, but any progress is good progress, right? I'm about 3 FT 4 IN into the blanket, which is slightly more than halfway there. I started last Wednesday cutting the strings so it's been a full week and I am just now at the midway point. The second half should go faster than the first, though.  Here are some pictures of the progress

Almost Done!!

Wednesday 10/24:

This is my last day of actually weaving this blanket. It is now 5'x6'!! I am so proud of this project and am thrilled I will be able to give this to special people in my life for their wedding :)

The next step is to pull the strings through and tie the ends on both sides.

I cut the long strings down to a manageable length, knot several of the strings together, and cut the fringe to a smaller length.  Note: Each "column" has a string inside, so there are 140 columns in the blanket.

Thursday 10/25: Finished!!!

Thanks for sharing this journey with me!! It was a fun experience documenting each step and progress made. I hope you enjoyed and learned from this blog. I will be updating my products so that you can customize your own blanket!
